Burghound 93: ***Sweet Spot*** Here too a subtle touch of wood sets off the notably ripe and highly spiced aromas of plum, violet and gentle earth scents. There is a wonderfully refined and ultra-pure mouth feel to the well-delineated and concentrated middle weight flavors that are almost pungently stony, all wrapped in an intense and focused yet lacy finale that exhibits just a hint of youthful austerity. This is positively gorgeous and shows absolutely no ill effects from the hail. In a word lovely.


Vinous 93: (from vines averaging 50 years of age): Full medium ruby. Black cherry, licorice, animal fur, violet and menthol on the slightly reduced nose. Sweet, primary and densely packed, showing noteworthy purity to its chewy flavors of dark berries, licorice and minerals. At once silky and vibrant, with a rising, energetic finish featuring refined tannins. A very successful Volnay for the year. (ST)
